MS HB1161

Amends Mississippi Code sections 63-3-1007 and 63-3-1013 to expand railroad grade crossing safety requirements to include on-track equipment in addition to trains.

Requires drivers to stop 15-50 feet from railroad tracks when warning signals indicate the approach of trains or other on-track equipment including hi-rail vehicles and maintenance equipment.

Expands requirements for operators of slow-moving equipment (caterpillar tractors, steam shovels, derricks, rollers) to stop and listen/look for approaching trains or other on-track equipment before crossing railroad tracks.

Prohibits crossing railroad grade crossings when warnings are given by automatic signals, crossing gates, flagmen, or other means of the approach of trains or other on-track equipment.

Effective date: July 1, 2018.
