Defines "platoon" as a group of motor vehicles traveling in a unified manner at electronically coordinated speeds with closer following distances than would otherwise be reasonable and prudent.

Exempts operators of nonlead vehicles in a platoon from laws requiring minimum distances between traveling vehicles, but only on limited access divided highways with multiple lanes in each direction and consisting of no more than two motor vehicles.

Requires platoon operators to file a plan for approval with the Department of Transportation, which must then forward it to the Department of Public Safety for approval.

Mandates the Department of Transportation and Department of Public Safety review and approve or disapprove platoon plans within 30 days of filing, with operators allowed to begin platoon operations 5 working days after approval.

Effective January 1, 2019.
