MS HB15

Changes State Board of Education authority from discretionary ("may") to mandatory ("shall") to establish vocational and technical schools in conjunction with public schools, agricultural high schools, or community/junior colleges.

Requires school district trustees to establish and conduct vocational and technical schools, classes, or courses with written consent from the State Board of Education.

Authorizes acceptance of land, buildings, donations, tuition fees, and funding from any sources to support vocational and technical education programs.

Requires school boards to establish vocational apprenticeship programs in high schools, allowing students to earn up to eight (8) additional high school units through approved work experience as an alternative to district-required electives.

Takes effect July 1, 2018.
