Reduces the merchandise value threshold for misdemeanor shoplifting convictions from $1,000 to $500.

First and second shoplifting convictions remain misdemeanors with fines up to $1,000 and/or jail time up to six months, with imprisonment suspended if court finds no substantial reasons to incarcerate.

Reduces the merchandise value threshold for felony punishment on third or subsequent convictions from $500-$1,000 range to exceeding $100.

Shoplifting merchandise valued over $500 is prosecuted as grand larceny felony under Section 97-17-41.

Prosecutors may aggregate merchandise value from multiple locations within the same jurisdiction over 30 days to determine offense severity; prior convictions over seven years old are disregarded.
