MS HB281

Creates Section 29-5-106 to prohibit the removal, relocation, disturbance, alteration, renaming, or rededication of religious symbols, displays, monuments, markers, structures, or objects with historical significance from public property.

Requires governing bodies with jurisdiction over public property to maintain, protect, preserve, care for, repair, and restore religious structures and objects with historical significance.

Authorizes display of "In God We Trust" and the Ten Commandments in all public buildings at the discretion of governing authorities, and allows display of the Beatitudes and Ten Commandments on any government property in Mississippi.

Brings forward existing statutes protecting historical military monuments, memorials, and other historically significant structures on public property from removal or relocation without exception for maintenance and preservation.

Takes effect July 1, 2018.
