Requires all health insurance policies, contracts, and managed care entities delivering coverage to Mississippi residents on or after July 1, 2018, to provide coverage for obesity and morbid obesity treatment, including bariatric surgery, gastric bypass, lap band surgery, and related prescriptions when medically necessary.

Coverage must be provided when a physician issues a written order stating the individual has a body mass index 30% or more above ideal body weight and the treatment is medically necessary, including all screening examinations and tests.

Individuals cannot be charged additional deductibles or coinsurance for obesity testing beyond annual deductibles for similar benefits, and reimbursement to providers must equal or exceed Medicare rates under Title XVII of the Social Security Act.

Plans or insurers are not required to refer patients to out-of-network providers if an appropriate in-network provider is available and accessible for the treatment.

Services provided by non-participating providers when referred by the plan must be delivered at no additional cost to the individual beyond what they would pay for in-network services.
