Increases the annual clothing allowance for plainclothes investigators employed by a sheriff's office from $400.00 to $1,000.00.

Increases the annual clothing allowance for county jail administrators in Gulf Coast counties with population between 31,700 and 31,800 (per 1990 Federal Census) from $400.00 to $1,000.00.

Makes the clothing allowance discretionary, allowing boards of supervisors to appropriate and pay the allowance but not requiring it.

Includes various gender-neutral language updates throughout the statute, changing references from "his" to "his or her."

Takes effect on July 1, 2018.
