Recognizes the red poppy as the Veterans flower and the American Legion Family Memorial Flower, adopted in the early 1920s at the first American Legion Auxiliary National Convention.

Honors the poem "In Flanders Fields" written by Lieutenant Colonel John McCrae during World War I, which inspired the poppy symbol's association with veteran sacrifice and remembrance.

Acknowledges the American Legion's mission across four pillars: Veterans Affairs & Rehabilitation, National Security, Americanism, and Children and Youth, with over 2.5 million members in more than 14,000 posts worldwide.

Provides an opportunity to recognize Legionnaires in Mississippi communities for their selfless service in various wars and contributions to ensuring American freedoms.
