Drivers must come to a complete stop at least 10 feet from a sanitation vehicle that is stopped for loading solid waste, refuse, or recyclable material when flashing lights are operating and a hand-operated stop sign is extended.

Exempts drivers on divided highways with at least four lanes (two lanes in each direction) from stopping when a sanitation vehicle is stopped in the opposing roadway.

Applies to sanitation vehicles owned or operated by counties, municipalities, or political subdivisions of Mississippi, and to contractors operating such vehicles under contract with these entities.

First violation is a misdemeanor punishable by a fine of $350 to $750 or up to one year imprisonment; second or subsequent offense within five years carries a fine of $750 to $1,500 or up to one year imprisonment.
