Amends Section 23-15-955, Mississippi Code of 1972, to establish exclusive legislative jurisdiction over primary election contests involving legislative seats.

Courts may exercise jurisdiction over primary election contests for legislative seats under existing law, but this authority ends once the regular legislative session following a general election convenes.

Upon convening of the regular session after a general election, each legislative house gains exclusive jurisdiction over primary election contests involving seats in that house, regardless of any other court proceedings.

Election contests must be filed with the Clerk of the House or Secretary of the Senate within 30 days after a regular general election or 10 days after a special election.

Effective date: July 1, 2018.
