Amends Mississippi Code Section 97-3-2 to remove language restricting parole and early release eligibility for persons convicted of crimes of violence.

Maintains the existing list of 20 crimes classified as crimes of violence, including murder, rape, robbery, kidnapping, and burglary of a dwelling.

Preserves judicial discretion to classify other felony offenses (with maximum sentences of at least 5 years) as crimes of violence if the defendant used or threatened physical force.

Removes the requirement that offenders convicted of crimes of violence serve at least 50% of their sentence before becoming eligible for parole or early release.

Effective July 1, 2018.
