Candidates for state district offices must be residents of the district they seek to represent for five years immediately before election day.

Candidates for statewide offices must be residents of Mississippi for five years immediately before election day.

Candidates must prove residency requirements in their qualifying information or provide absolute proof they will meet the requirement by election day.

Amends sections governing State Highway Commission members, district attorneys, and the Commissioner of Agriculture and Commerce to include the five-year residency requirement.

Effective July 1, 2018.
