Authorizes the State Department of Education to establish a Special Nonrenewable License for prospective teachers beginning July 1, 2018, allowing candidates to enter classrooms before completing full teacher preparation programs like the Teach Mississippi Institute (TMI).

The Special Nonrenewable License permits individuals intending to enroll in TMI or other Mississippi-based nontraditional programs to teach for one school year while preparing for program entrance requirements and taking additional coursework to improve their GPA.

Candidates holding the Special Nonrenewable License may prepare for and take required entrance tests during the one-school-year period of licensure.

The license is nonrenewable and intended as a transitional credential for those pursuing alternative route teacher certification through established nontraditional programs.
