SB2666 Summary

• Expands the definition of "athlete agent" to include individuals who provide financial, business, or career management services for compensation or anticipated compensation related to a student-athlete's participation in athletics, whether or not they are registered.

• Requires agency contracts to include a statement that the athlete agent is registered in Mississippi, and mandates a separate acknowledgment signed by the student-athlete or their parent/guardian confirming they understand signing may result in loss of athletic eligibility.

• Grants parents or guardians of minor student-athletes the right to cancel agency contracts within 14 days and to void non-compliant contracts without obligation to return consideration received.

• Specifies that appeals of registration denials or suspensions shall be brought in circuit court of the athlete agent's county of residence (if a Mississippi resident) or the county where the educational institution is located.

• Affirms that Mississippi educational institutions retain the authority to adopt and enforce their own policies and regulations regarding athlete agent interactions with student-athletes, effective July 1, 2018.
