Board of Barber Examiners gains authority to establish and enforce sanitation fines in barbershops and barber schools with written consent from the Mississippi Department of Health.

Establishments must obtain a barber license before displaying a barber pole or advertising barber services; unauthorized use subject to fines of $25-$200.

Barber school applicants must provide criminal background checks performed within 30 days before enrollment; applicants with felony convictions require Board approval before enrollment.

Multiple fee increases for exams and licenses: barber exam $55 to $75, barber instructor exam $55 to $100, barber school license $100 to $250 annually; eliminates renewal fees for barbers and instructors age 72 and older.

Penalties increased for employing unlicensed barbers ($500 for first violation, $1,000 for subsequent) and violations of barber law ($25 minimum to $100 minimum); sanitation violations subject to $25-$1,000 fines per inspection.
