Board of Barber Examiners gains authority to establish and enforce sanitation fines in barbershops and barber schools with written consent from Mississippi Department of Health.

Establishments must obtain Board of Barber Examiners license before displaying a barber pole or advertising barbering services; violations subject to fines of $25-$200.

Barber school applicants must provide criminal background checks performed within 30 days before enrollment; applicants with felony convictions require Board approval before enrolling.

Students with at least 1,000 hours of training, "B" average, and school recommendation may receive temporary permits to practice barbering one day per week for $25 fee.

Examination and licensing fees increase: registered barber exam $60 (from $55), certificate issuance $60 (from $45), instructor exam $75 (from $55), instructor certificate $75 (from $50); barbers and instructors age 72+ no longer pay renewal fees.

First violation fine for employing unlicensed barbers increases to $450 (from $500); general violation penalties increase to $100-$950 range (from $25-$1,000).
