Amends Section 97-37-17 of Mississippi Code to add an exemption allowing persons with valid instructor-certified carry permits under Section 97-37-7 to possess firearms on educational property.

The exemption applies to any person, including students, who holds an instructor-certified carry permit.

Maintains existing felony penalties for unauthorized firearm possession on educational property (up to $5,000 fine and three years imprisonment).

Maintains existing misdemeanor penalties for possession of other weapons like knives, brass knuckles, and similar devices on educational property (up to $1,000 fine and six months imprisonment).

Effective date: July 1, 2018.
