Senate Bill 2761 Summary

• Changes the threshold for reporting a student as absent an entire school day from 37% to 50% of the instructional day in public schools.

• Clarifies that students participating in superintendent-approved authorized school activities (field trips, athletic contests, student conventions, musical festivals, 4-H, or FFA events) are marked present for attendance reporting purposes.

• Requires written documentation from Extension Agents or High School Agricultural Instructors/FFA Advisors to excuse absences for 4-H or FFA events.

• Reorganizes the list of valid excuses for temporary nonattendance by removing the authorized school activity provision from the excused absence list and incorporating it into the general attendance counting provision.

• Effective July 1, 2018.
