Increases death benefit payment from the Law Enforcement Officers and Fire Fighters Death Benefits Trust Fund from $100,000 to $150,000 for covered individuals killed in the line of duty.

Applies to law enforcement officers and firefighters (including volunteers) employed by state agencies, counties, municipalities, or other political subdivisions who die from covered causes while performing official duties.

Establishes the Law Enforcement Officers and Fire Fighters Death Benefits Trust Fund with an initial appropriation of $200,000, funded by legislative appropriations, donations, and contributions.

Benefits are payable to beneficiaries designated by the covered individual in writing, or if no designation exists, to surviving spouse and children equally, then parents, or finally to the estate.

Takes effect July 1, 2018.
