MS SB2810

Amends Section 43-1-4, Mississippi Code of 1972 to expand the Department of Human Services' authority to conduct fingerprinting and background investigations on employees, contractors, subcontractors, and volunteers.

Requires background investigations for individuals with direct access to children or vulnerable adult clients, those in fiduciary positions, those with access to Federal Tax Information (FTI), or those otherwise required by federal law or regulations.

Mandates that all subject individuals provide valid social security numbers and/or driver's license numbers to enable background investigations and determine good moral character and absence of felony convictions.

Requires fingerprints to be forwarded to the Federal Bureau of Investigation for a fingerprint-based national criminal history record check if no disqualifying records are found at the state level.

Takes effect on July 1, 2018.
