Amends Mississippi Code Section 19-3-81 to expand the types of items county sheriffs may purchase from inmate canteen funds for jails and inmates.

Removes the prohibition against using canteen funds to purchase personal hygiene items for inmates.

Authorizes canteen fund expenditures for inmate uniforms, recreational equipment, medical supplies, bedding, hygiene supplies, televisions, security cameras, laundry equipment, and food preparation equipment.

Permits funds to be used for sheriff's department employee uniforms, equipment (including weapons, body armor, and vehicles), and training classes for jail staff.

Takes effect July 1, 2018.
