True freshman quarterback Keytaon Thompson made his first-ever start and rushed 27 times for 147 yards and three touchdowns while passing for 127 yards in the victory.

Junior safety Mark McLaurin was named the TaxSlayer Bowl MVP after recording three interceptions, contributing to four total picks by Mississippi State's defense in the game.

The Bulldogs rallied in the fourth quarter, outscoring Louisville 14-3 after trailing 24-17 through three quarters, marking their third consecutive bowl victory and improving to 13-8 all-time in bowl games.
