East Rankin Academy "Lady Patriots" Varsity Basketball Team completed the 2017-2018 season with a 29-6 record and won the MAIS AAAA Division II State Championship and South District Tournament Championship.

Team member Leah Cunningham, a sophomore, died in an automobile accident on December 23, 2017, while her sister Brooke (junior) was also involved; the team honored Leah with a memorial patch (#14) on their jerseys.

Coach Rod Delaney and the team demonstrated exceptional character and resilience following the tragedy, continuing to compete and ultimately achieving the state championship.

The resolution commends and congratulates the East Rankin Academy "Lady Patriots" Varsity Basketball Team and Coach Rod Delaney for their accomplishments and honors their lost teammate.

The resolution directs presentation of this commendation to Coach Rod Delaney, Headmaster Dan Boyce, and Athletic Administrator Dan Davis, and to the East Rankin Academy Board of Trustees.
