Gary J. Herring served as Head of School of First Presbyterian Day School for more than 30 years beginning in 1987 and is retiring in June 2018.

Under Herring's leadership, the school expanded facilities including a renovated gymnasium, science lab, preschool center, and playground, while also reducing student-teacher ratios and implementing curriculum improvements.

The school established new programs during his tenure including a K3 and K4 preschool program, a dyslexia immersion program, and a schoolwide mission project that raised thousands of dollars for various ministries.

Herring received the Joe F. Shepard Memorial Award from the Mississippi Association of Independent Schools in 2013.

The legislature recognizes Herring for his prayerful and godly leadership at First Presbyterian Day School and extends best wishes on his retirement.
