House Bill 1503 Summary

• Allows persons already receiving a Public Employees' Retirement System (PERS) retirement allowance who are elected to the Legislature after retirement to continue receiving that allowance while serving in the Legislature.

• Allows current legislators who have reached age and/or service requirements under PERS to elect to receive a retirement allowance while continuing to serve without withdrawing from office.

• Permits recipients to choose between receiving either 50% of legislative session compensation (if serving no more than half the normal working days per fiscal year) or compensation capped at 25% of their average compensation (with no time limitations).

• Specifies that legislators receiving retirement allowances under these provisions shall not be active members of PERS or the Supplemental Legislative Retirement Plan and shall not accrue additional creditable service during this period.

• Effective July 1, 2019.
