Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks conservation officers won first place at the 2018 National LawFit Challenge in Southaven, Mississippi, marking their third national title in four years.

The LawFit Challenge is a three-day competition organized by the National Center for Public Safety Fitness at George Mason University, featuring over 150 law enforcement officers competing in six fitness and job-related events: bench press, 1.5 mile run, sit-ups, flexibility, pull-ups, and suspect pursuit course.

Nine Mississippi Wildlife officers competed as an elite team, with multiple members placing in top spots including Corporal Justin Gates (first in bench press), Private Derrick Scott (first in 1.5 mile run and overall male), and Lieutenant Marcus Christon (first in pull-ups and suspect pursuit course).

The resolution recognizes the Department of Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks for bringing honor to the state through the fitness and performance of its officers in law enforcement duties.

Copies of the resolution shall be furnished to the Department of Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks and members of the Capitol Press Corps.
