Legislature finds that addressing illegal immigration costs Mississippi approximately $106,000,000 annually, including costs for identifying, processing, and incarcerating illegal immigrants, plus education, medical assistance, and healthcare.

Attorney General is authorized to pursue all available federal remedies to recover reimbursement for state costs associated with illegal immigration, effective July 31, 2019.

Attorney General must file written annual reports by December 31st to the Governor, Lieutenant Governor, Speaker of the House, and Joint Legislative Budget Committee Chairperson detailing progress on recovery efforts.

Bill cites decreased federal funding for immigration enforcement while the federal government requests states enforce federal immigration laws and homeland security responsibilities.
