SB 2130 Summary

• Revises statutory references throughout Mississippi Code of 1972 to replace "Mississippi Department of Human Services" with "Mississippi Department of Child Protection Services" in conformity with existing law

• Updates terminology in 89 code sections across multiple titles including education, health, welfare, child protection, adoption, and criminal statutes

• Applies consistent naming convention to the department responsible for child welfare services, foster care, adoption assistance, child abuse/neglect investigations, and family protection services

• Makes corresponding technical changes including renaming "Division of Family and Children's Services" to the department level and updating related administrative references

• Effective July 1, 2019
