Each classroom teacher in Mississippi public schools with class periods exceeding 50 minutes must have an unencumbered planning period during the teaching day for individual or departmental planning.

Secondary teachers on traditional six or seven-period schedules must receive a minimum of 225 minutes of instructional planning time per week, exclusive of lunch.

Elementary schoolteachers must receive a minimum of 150 minutes of instructional planning time per week, exclusive of lunch.

Schools may schedule departmental planning meetings during a teacher's individual planning period no more than three times per month, with schools required to maintain a log documenting compliance.

Failure to comply with these requirements constitutes a violation of the Mississippi Public School Accountability Standards; the act takes effect July 1, 2019.
