MS SB2243

Amends Section 33-15-17, Mississippi Code of 1972, to authorize the president of a county board of supervisors to proclaim a local emergency, matching authority previously held only by mayors and municipal governing bodies.

Requires the county governing body to review and approve or disapprove the emergency proclamation at its first regular meeting or a special meeting called for that purpose.

Mandates the county governing body review the need for continuing the local emergency at least every 30 days until the emergency is terminated.

Allows governing bodies to promulgate orders and regulations during a local emergency to protect life and property, including curfews within designated boundaries where necessary to preserve public order and safety.

Effective date: July 1, 2019.
