MS SB2361

Amends Mississippi Code sections 37-17-7 and 37-15-33 to require public schools, community colleges, junior colleges, and universities to accept course credits and grades from students transferring from accredited nonpublic schools.

Specifies eight accrediting agencies whose credentials must be recognized: Mississippi Association of Independent Schools (MAIS), Southern Plains Association of Christian Schools, Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS), American Association of Christian Schools, Association of Christian Schools International, Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools, Mississippi Association of Christian Schools, and Mississippi Private School Education Association.

Students transferring from nonpublic schools with accreditation from any of the listed agencies are automatically accepted for credit purposes at any Mississippi public school, community college, junior college, or public university without additional testing requirements.

Maintains existing transfer requirements for non-accredited schools, which may require students to take placement tests within 30 days of application and limit grade placement to within three grades of their previous assignment.

Effective date: July 1, 2019.
