Senate Bill 2770 Summary

• Increases minimum teacher salary by $1,500.00 across all license types and experience levels in the 2019-2020 salary schedule, with entry-level salaries (0-2 years experience) ranging from $35,890.00 to $40,608.00 depending on license type.

• Increases minimum annual salary for teacher assistants from $12,500.00 to $14,000.00 effective in the 2019-2020 school year and thereafter.

• Maintains existing salary supplements including $6,000.00 annually for teachers with Master Teacher certification from the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards and similar certifications for nurses, counselors, and speech pathologists.

• Preserves the Mississippi Performance-Based Pay plan and mentor teacher compensation program, providing additional pay for schools showing student achievement improvements and mentor teachers working with beginning teachers.

• Takes effect July 1, 2019.
