Mississippi Transportation Commission may require contractors to provide law enforcement safety operations in work zones on high-volume roadways or high-risk projects through contract provisions or bid requirements.

Contractors may fulfill work zone safety requirements by entering agreements with state, county, or municipal law enforcement agencies, which can only provide services within their jurisdiction and with their legally granted enforcement powers.

Municipalities and counties are authorized to enter agreements with private entities to provide law enforcement services for security and traffic control operations within their jurisdictions.

Law enforcement contracts must include reimbursement provisions covering personnel compensation, materials, supplies, fuel, and equipment maintenance costs, with duration and cost ascertainment terms agreed upon by parties.

The act takes effect July 1, 2019.
