Water Valley High School "Blue Devils" football team won the Class 3A State Championship on November 30, 2018, defeating Seminary 34-28, ending a 28-year title drought since 1990.

The team finished the season 14-2 after the same group of players went 2-9 two seasons earlier as freshmen and sophomores.

Senior Wide Receiver Bud Tolbert won the game's Most Valuable Player award, recording over 100 receiving yards and four touchdown receptions, including a 35-yard touchdown catch in the third quarter.

Coach Brad Embry, who has led the program for 11 years, is commended for his leadership and confidence in the players, telling the group of seniors in eighth grade they could win a State Championship.

The concurrent resolution commends and congratulates the Water Valley High School football team, Coach Brad Embry, and recognizes the full roster of 43 student-athletes for bringing honor to their school and community.
