Recognizes Tanya Carter, WTVA 9 Tupelo News Anchor, for her civic contributions and journalism excellence as the first African-American female journalist from the Mississippi Delta to win the Howard Lett Award.

Carter has served as Anchor/Reporter at WTVA 9 News in Tupelo since 2016, anchoring multiple daily newscasts and hosting the public affairs show "Chasing The News."

Carter received numerous awards including the 2012 Howard Lett "Newsperson of the Year" Award from the Mississippi Associated Press Broadcasters, multiple Associated Press Awards for investigative reporting, and the 2010 FBI Director's Community Leadership Award.

Carter has contributed to major community initiatives including the EverFi Financial Literacy Platform implementation in over 30 Mississippi Delta school districts, which resulted in over 75,000 high school students graduating as Mississippi Financial Scholars.

Resolution directs that the recognition be presented to Carter, forwarded to WTVA Channel 9 Tupelo, and made available to the Capitol Press Corps.
