HB 1034 Summary

• Authorizes issuance of distinctive motor vehicle license tags for honorably discharged veterans, Bronze Star recipients, Vietnam War veterans, Iraq/Afghanistan veterans, Navy and Marine Corps Medal recipients, and combat veterans, effective July 1, 2020.

• Establishes $30 annual fee for each distinctive veteran license tag, with tax proceeds distributed to Mississippi Veterans Affairs (supporting state veterans homes), Mississippi Burn Care Fund, State Highway Fund, and special licensing funds.

• Creates Gold Star license plates for family members of service members killed on active duty during hostile activities or wartime, with one plate per eligible mother and one per unremarried spouse exempt from ad valorem, privilege, and all other taxes and fees.

• Authorizes distinctive motorcycle license tags for veterans and allows up to two license decals per distinctive tag, with $10 replacement fee for lost or stolen tags.

• Sunsets prior distinctive tag programs effective June 30, 2020, and consolidates issuance procedures through county tax collectors with Department of Revenue oversight.
