Effective October 1, 2020, Mississippi shall cease funding any existing contracts between the Department of Human Services and private entities for child support collection and enforcement operations.

After funding ends, the department must terminate all such contracts and the Child Support Unit of the Department of Human Services shall assume all child support collection and enforcement functions previously performed by private contractors.

The state shall not be subject to monetary penalties or liable for any payments to private entities as a result of contract termination.

Amends Section 43-1-3 to prohibit the Department of Human Services from entering into any new contracts with private entities for child support collection and enforcement operations on or after the effective date of this act.

The prohibition on privatizing child support operations shall stand repealed on July 1, 2023.
