The office of tax assessor is established as a nonpartisan office, and candidates are prohibited from campaigning or qualifying based on party affiliation.

Political parties and affiliated committees are prohibited from fundraising for tax assessor candidates, making contributions to them, or publicly endorsing them; candidates cannot accept such contributions.

Tax assessor candidates' names shall be listed separately on ballots in alphabetical order with no party affiliation indicated and clearly identified as nonpartisan.

Amends Mississippi Code sections 23-15-299, 23-15-359, 23-15-367, 23-15-511, and 23-15-531.3 to conform ballot procedures and candidate qualification processes to nonpartisan status.

The act takes effect July 1, 2020.
