HB 770 - Trauma-Informed Schools Act

• Requires State Board of Education to establish minimum training standards for school personnel on trauma-informed education within 180 days of July 1, 2020, covering identification of Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs), support systems, and positive behavior policies.

• Mandates all public, charter, and state-accredited nonpublic schools submit annual plans documenting trauma-informed training policies, recording mechanisms, and enforcement procedures to the State Superintendent of Public Education.

• Requires schools to report annually on the number of personnel trained, trainings facilitated, and dates and locations of state-approved trauma-informed education programs.

• Creates the Mississippi School Safety and Security Committee to develop recommendations for mental health services, trauma-informed school guidelines, a public website, and criteria for federal funding of trauma-informed practices.

• Defines "Adverse Childhood Experiences" to include physical abuse, sexual abuse, illness, family death, poverty, neglect, neighborhood violence, disasters, hunger, bullying, and family or emotional abuse affecting children under age 18.
