Coach Lonnie Walker passed away on February 24, 2020, and was commemorated for his contributions to Alcorn State University and Mississippi.

Walker was a student-athlete at Alcorn State from 1964-1968, lettering in basketball, baseball, and tennis, and was named SWAC Freshman of the Year in basketball in 1964-1965.

He served as an assistant men's basketball coach under Davey L. Whitney for 22 seasons, during which Alcorn posted 19 winning seasons and made multiple NCAA and NIT tournament appearances.

Walker became head men's basketball coach at Alcorn State University from 1989 to 1993, and was inducted into the Alcorn A-Club Sports Hall of Fame in 2005 and the SWAC Hall of Fame in 2011.

The resolution extends condolences to Walker's wife Shirley and other family members, and directs copies be sent to his family and the Capitol Press Corps.
