Requires the State Fire Marshal to adopt and administer regulations for carbon monoxide detection and warning equipment in all public and nonpublic school buildings, effective July 1, 2020.

Mandates that carbon monoxide detection equipment meet or exceed Underwriter's Laboratories Standard Number 2075, or carbon monoxide warning equipment meet or exceed Standard Number 2034.

Prohibits installation of battery-operated carbon monoxide warning equipment or plug-in equipment with battery backup power in school buildings.

Requires regulations to establish testing and inspection frequency for carbon monoxide equipment and mandate compliance with manufacturer instructions and National Fire Protection Association standards.

Provides liability protection for school boards, superintendents, employees, and agents from damages resulting from carbon monoxide detection failures when equipment is properly installed and maintained according to manufacturer specifications.
