MS SB2017

Establishes a tiered annual salary structure for local school board members effective July 1, 2020, based on district enrollment as of October 1 each fiscal year

Sets salaries ranging from $3,600 for districts with up to 5,000 students to $6,000 for districts with over 30,000 students

Replaces the previous compensation system that allowed board members to choose between $67 per diem (up to 36 meetings) or a flat $2,400 annual salary

Requires board members who miss 20% or more of meetings in a calendar year to reimburse a proportionate amount of their salary to the district

School board members remain ineligible for state employee group insurance, retirement, or other fringe benefits regardless of salary level
