Prohibits discharging pistols, shotguns, rifles, or other firearms (excluding air rifles, air pistols, and BB guns) within 1,000 feet of any residence, school, or church, regardless of occupancy or injury

Violations punishable by up to 10 years in state custody, up to 1 year in county jail, fines up to $5,000, or both imprisonment and fine

Counties may regulate firearm discharge in platted subdivisions but cannot prohibit shooting on private land where projectiles stay within property lines, unless it violates the 1,000-foot restriction

New outdoor shooting ranges established after the act must have firing lines at least 1,000 feet from residences, schools, or churches when discharging firearms (other than air guns or bows)

Pre-existing shooting ranges may continue operating under less restrictive distance requirements (150-300 feet depending on weapon type), but must still comply with the new 1,000-foot restriction for standard firearms
