MS SB2299

Adds "companion animal" to the Mississippi Protection from Domestic Abuse Act, defined as any animal kept inside a residential dwelling and any dog or cat regardless of location, but excludes livestock and wild animals.

Authorizes courts to include provisions in final domestic abuse protection orders directing respondents to refrain from abusing companion animals.

Allows courts to grant possession of personal property to petitioners in final protection orders, in addition to existing provisions regarding residence and household possession.

Adds "harming" to the list of prohibited actions regarding mutually owned or leased property in temporary protection orders.

Effective July 1, 2020.
