Senate Bill 2388 Summary

• Amends Section 47-7-3 of Mississippi Code to allow offenders sentenced to 40 years or more to request a judicial recommendation for parole after serving 10 years (instead of requiring 25% of sentence served).

• Applies only to offenders who have not committed crimes of violence under Section 97-3-2 and who meet other parole eligibility requirements.

• Requires the sentencing judge, or if unavailable, the senior circuit judge, to authorize the offender's eligibility for parole consideration.

• Effective July 1, 2020.
