Senate Bill 2656 Summary

• Expands the definition of "public body" to explicitly include municipalities, counties, school districts, levee districts, community and junior colleges, and all advisory or professional committees related to public entities that discuss public issues.

• Requires all public bodies to create and maintain a public notice list of email addresses and send meeting notices (including day, date, time, place, and agenda) to subscribers at least 72 hours before meetings or within one business day of scheduling.

• Mandates public bodies post a members and key staff list (with names, areas represented, and email addresses) on their webpage and display contact information for requesting addition to the public notice list.

• Changes the deadline for recording and posting meeting minutes from 30 days to 48 hours after meeting adjournment, and requires minutes be emailed to the public notice list and posted on the webpage within 48 hours.

• Takes effect 30 days after passage.
