MS SB2782

Directs the Department of Corrections to convert four restitution centers (Greenwood, Flowood, Hinds County, and Pascagoula) into pre-release reentry centers for inmates within one year of release.

Requires the Department of Corrections to provide pre-release reentry services including counseling, housing, employment training, education, healthcare, substance abuse treatment, and cognitive behavioral programs to eligible inmates.

Repeals sections 99-37-19 and 99-37-21, which previously authorized county and municipal governments to establish restitution centers in cooperation with the Department of Public Welfare.

Brings forward multiple sections of Mississippi Code related to sheriffs' compensation, sex offender registration, Department of Corrections functions, probation violations, and correctional facilities for potential amendment.

Takes effect July 1, 2020.
