Amends Section 43-1-23 of the Mississippi Code to require that the Director of the Fraud Investigation Unit and all investigators be classified as law enforcement officers, part-time law enforcement officers, or law enforcement trainees as defined in Section 45-6-3(c) through (e).

Expands the Fraud Investigation Unit's responsibilities to include prevention of fraud or abuse in addition to detection and verification, and extends investigative authority to nonfederal entities with which the department has entered into agreements.

Authorizes Fraud Investigation Unit investigators to request assistance from state and local agencies, boards, commissions, and the Department of Revenue, with all records and information remaining confidential and available only to prosecutors, the Attorney General, and courts.

Effective July 1, 2020.
