MS SB2824

Amends the Higher Education Legislative Plan Grant Program to require that grant recipients must successfully complete high school coursework that includes the College Preparatory Curriculum (CPC) approved by the Board of Trustees of State Institutions of Higher Learning and required for admission into a state university.

Removes previous specific coursework requirements (17.5 units, art units, and advanced elective units) and replaces them with a single requirement to complete the CPC curriculum.

Maintains existing eligibility requirements including Mississippi residency, minimum 2.5 high school GPA, ACT composite score of at least 20, no criminal record except misdemeanor traffic violations, and demonstrated financial need.

Allows students who fail to meet one specific requirement (GPA, CPC completion, or ACT score) by 10% or less to still qualify for tuition assistance for associate degrees or academic undergraduate degrees.

Takes effect July 1, 2020.
