Extends sympathy of the Mississippi Legislature to the family of Lieutenant General Wayne O. Burkes, who passed away on May 5, 2020.

Commends Burkes' distinguished career including service as Mississippi House Representative (1976-1980), Mississippi Senator (1980-1990), Central Mississippi Highway Commissioner (1989), and appointment to the United States Surface Transportation Board by President Clinton.

Honors his 38 years of military service in the Mississippi Air National Guard and United States Air Force, during which he accumulated over 7,000 flight hours and achieved the rank of Lieutenant General.

Recognizes his service as a Baptist minister, educator at Hinds Community College, advocate for Mississippi veterans, and recipient of the Mississippi Distinguished Civilian Service Medal in 2014.

Directs that the resolution be presented to Burkes' family and forwarded to the Mississippi Air National Guard, Department of Transportation, Mississippi Baptist Convention, and Capitol Press Corps.
